45 years after the tryumph of the Sandinista-led popular revolution in Nicaragua, we talk to Matthias Schindler who devoted around 40 years of his life to building international solidarity with this revolution. We focus on both its achievements and its failures. The latter resulted in a brutal assault on a popular 2018 mobilisation against the corruption and antisocial policies of the once glorious FSLN. Matthias is a former local leader in IG Metall - a major German trade union. After organising support for the Sandinistas for many years, he became a vocal critic of the degenerated Ortega-Murillo regime. He has written about Nicaragua extensively and is currently working on his PhD on this subject at New University of Lisbon.
